Wonder By R.J. Palacio

This book is about a boy named August, who is rather extraordinary. Before he was born, the doctors realized that there was something wrong with August's face, but did'nt think it was going to be serious. But straight after he was born, the nurses had to rush him to somewhere because of his face. His face was quite disfigured and he thinks his family does'nt see him as ordinary because they seem to overprotect him. He was home schooled because he had too many surgeries since he was born.

One day, his mother wanted him to go to school to learn more than she could teach. August was sad and he cried because he wasn't ready to go to an actual school because he knew that people were going to laugh at him because of his face. So then, his parents decided not to force him and told August that he could go to school whenever he wanted to, but they wanted him to at least, meet the principal of the new school. The principal, Mr. Tushman brought 3 other students, Charlotte, Jack, and Julian, so that they could bring August around the school. After the tour around the school, they all shaked hands and August's parents drove him back home. At home, August told his parents about Charlotte, Jack and Julian, and told them that he wanted to go to school.

He had a tough time in school and at home. People in school kept staring at him and teasing him because of his face, and at home, August, his mother and Via, August's sister, quarreled because August was having and bad time and started thinking that his family didn't understand him and why he was so stressed. He was also very shocked and sad because his dog, Daisy, passed away right after the quarrel.

Besides all the bad and rough times August have had, he also met a few friends who truly cared about him no matter how he looked like. They protected August and stood up for him when people tried to bully him.

My favourite character in the book is August because he is brave. No matter how many people teased him, he would not cry in school or in class and would not tell his parents because he didn't want his parents to worry about him.

I enjoyed this book beause it is very touching and heart warming. From this book, i have learned that we should not tease or bully people based on their looks. Everybody is beautiful and special just they way they are.
